    Although I did not fully appreciate it at the time, my education at Sacred Heart Catholic School (SHCS) was one of the best gifts I ever received from my parents. The quality education was top notch. SHCS provided a very disciplined, but nurturing learning environment, and my teachers were always generous with giving individualized attention to the students who needed it. The curriculum was rigorous and always seemed to be at a level ahead of other schools in the area. As a testament to SHCS's success in preparing its students for high school, the valedictorian and the salutatorian (which is the position I held) of my public high school class of 489 students were both SHCS alumni, and four of the top-five ranked students had attended SHCS. This SHCS achievement is particularly impressive considering that my 9th-grade SHCS class only had ten students. At SHCS, my classmates and I were expected, encouraged, and challenged to dream big, to strive for excellence, and to seize opportunities to contribute to the community. SHCS was not only a great start in my education, but also in life.
