Art

Our students pursue excellence in self-expression.

Art is a powerful hands-on education tool fostering creativity and problem-solving.

Art and artistic development provide indirect support for improved academic performance in all subject areas. It is an important component of the school’s whole person educational philosophy. Art encourages:

  • Individual creativity
  • Focus
  • Hands-on problem solving
  • Fine motor skill development
  • Visual learning
  • Perseverance

Sacred Heart Catholic School provides art instruction for student growth and development. The creation of art allows for original thinking and self-expression. The act of creation broadens a student’s educational experience and reinforces the pursuit of excellence.

In the art room, students are taught to develop confidence in their artistic abilities and own unique creative vision.

Art lessons focus on the elements and principles of design and are linked to interdisciplinary, art history and multicultural experiences when appropriate. All ages are exposed to a variety of media and techniques throughout the academic year, including but not limited to tempera paint, collage, printmaking, sculpture, and watercolor.

Ideas and techniques build on each other from year to year, and students are given the opportunity to learn more advanced concepts as they move from lower to middle school.
